Well, maybe not. But this is pretty shitty.
After trying to move all porn sites to .xxx domains, after trying to squelch out porn with their 2257 fiasco, AFTER trying to force ISPs to keep catalogues of all sites visiting, the republicans finally have it!
Mandatory Web Labeling Laws.
Lets imagine you, Sam Surfer, decide “Boogies blog sure is fun to read I would like to have a blog of my own” so you head on over to say, blogspot.com, and create your own. Its pretty pure and simple now.
But with the republicans new way of thinking you’d have to “rate” your website, like the ESRB does video games and the MPAA does movies, and so on and so forth.
So lets imagine you think you’re going to make a NON adult website that could NOT be considered harmful to minors. Then one day you get pissed off and go on a tirade and say “FUCKING SHIT COCKSUCKING FUCKBALLS” in your post. Or maybe one day you include a picture or youtube video that may be considered “sexual”.
Only your website is still rated G.
and eventually a politician who wants to make a name for hismelf finds it.

Extremist? maybe. But this law Has already passed the senate comittee and is well on its way to becoming law.
The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, with the backing of the Bush administration, approved an amendment to a wide-ranging telecommunications bill that would require mandatory website labeling on pages that contain explicit sexual images.
Both proposals were prompted by a speech from Attorney General Alberto Gonzales in April, who called on Congress to act quickly to “prevent people from inadvertently stumbling across pornographic images on the Internet.”
Yeah that’s great, I dont want anyone accidently stumbling accross porn if they dont want to. Problem is? KIDS ARENT DOING IT ON ACCIDENt YOU RETARDS. they want to look at porn. Remember when you were 15 years old back in, what was it, 1920 you old dried up senate fucks? Well, remember how badly you tried to sneak a peek at Susie Q’s tits? SO ARE YOUR KIDS, ITS CALLED HORMONES. READ ABOUT IT IN WIKIPEDIA.
And this does absolutely NOTHING to stop kids from accessing these things in librarys all accross the country.
This does NOTHING to keep smart kids from circumventing adult filters.
This does NOTHING but make it more cumbersome for adult webmasters to do their jobs.

According to CNET News, which has seen a copy of the bill, websites must not place sexually graphic images on their homepage, and they must rate “each page or screen of the website that does contain sexually explicit material,” according to a system to be determined by the Federal Trade Commission.
I have no less than, lets say, seventy bazilillion pages across my server, all of which would have to be labeled. sounds like a real fun time.

not to mention those people you’re talking about that prey on kids? They dont do it via this blog or any other. they do it via chatrooms and instant messenger, which wont have to be web labeled. Or dont you watch 20/20 like the rest of us?

But the best part, of course, is that the internet is INTERNATIONAL. (wonder if thats how they got the name? INTERNET).
Even if all americans do this, there is still the rest of the web. Most of the offending websites are outside of the country anyways. Sad, stupid, ignorant shits. IT will achieve NOTHING. It will push the offending websites offshores where they’re unprosecutable, and they’ll keep on NOT weblabeling and taking advantage of kids and telling you to go fuck yourself.

Oh grow the fuck up already and stop your whining. It’s not the end of the Earth because you might have to actually LABEL your site! Fuck, if every other media outlet has been doing it for years without so much as a penny lost, what the fuck is the problem???

@smitty: I agree that labelling is not so bad in and of itself. I.e. if the blogger in Boogie’s example wants the freedom to post the occasional racy content then he should just rate his blog as R or X or whatever they call it from the get-go. Like Boogie says, anyone who wants to read it will ignore the rating and do so. And pretty much every adult webmaster would be happy to scare off anyone who isn’t interested in reading something labelled more harshly than “G”.
However, if Boogie does just “hate Republicans” then he has good reason for it. The Bush administration obviously has an agenda, based on personal morals, to cripple this industry as much as possible. They’ll use any tactic they can pull out of their asses to do it, too. And they constantly pull bullshit like mentioning adult websites and Internet predators in the same paragraph. The two are completely unrelated and like Boogie says, the labelling law has absolutely zero to do with Internet predators. So why mention them? Because the person speaking is purely out to hurt adult webmasters. He has absolutely no interest in protecting children.
If one takes into account that the Republican campaign against porn is not meant to protect anyone but instead meant to hurt the industry, one can see why Boogie would rail against this new bill. It’s just another salvo of attacks wrapped in a package that looks innocuous, helpful and most importantly — Constitutionally sound. And no one will defend our industry because to do so would result in being labelled as “against the protection of children.” And a law such as this, with its vague wording about rules and punishments and potentially encumbering implementation, is easy to abuse for the personal agendas of politicians and judges. America is not about personal agendas, but these guys want it to be. And that’s not okay.

I dont hate republicans. I hate this anti porn agenda. I didnt like it when the democrats were doing it during the clinton administration either.
I considered myself a republican up until about 2000 for what its worth. Now i’m just neutral.
